The Audioquest Carbon Digital Coax is the third digital audio coaxial cable in the American manufacturer's range. Designed to offer a wide bandwidth and minimize distortion, Audioquest digital coaxial audio cables promote the speed of information transmission, a key factor in limiting jitter and optimizing the reconstruction of the analog signal by the DAC from the digital data.
Audioquest Carbon Digital Coax is a digital audio coaxial cable that uses solid 5% silver plated OFC copper conductors. This solution offers multiple advantages for the transmission of digital signals. First, the use of solid conductors rather than multiple copper strands reduces distortion due to interactions between the different strands, and at the same time reduces jitter. Secondly, the very high frequencies of the digital signals that flow almost exclusively on the surface of the conductor benefit from the excellent conductivity of the high purity silver used for the plating. The results obtained are therefore very close to those of a very high-end cable with pure silver conductors, but at a much lower cost.
The insulation of the Audioquest Carbon Digital Coax is made of polyethylene foam in which nitrogen microbubbles have been injected. This relatively rigid foam is used because it allows to maintain the arrangement of the conductors on the whole length of the cable, which guarantees a perfect stability of its impedance. The shielding, which also acts as a return channel for coaxial connections, is made of a carefully designed metal strip and silver-plated spiral. The proprietary NDS technology using 5 layers of carbon effectively prevents RF interference from polluting the ground plane of the connected device.
Audioquest Carbon Digital Coax is terminated with metal plugs with silver plated high purity copper contacts. The manual cold crimping process helps to preserve the integrity of the cable's conductive properties, avoiding heat alteration of the material during the soldering process. Thus, the conductive qualities of the cable and the integrity of the transmitted signal are preserved from one end of the cable to the other.
